For all of you that have 2 dog’s….Do you walk them together or seperately?
I have a 10 year old Black Lab and a 4 month old Black Lab. I walked them together when the pup was younger because he needed the older dog as a role model or he wouldn’t budge, but now that he is older and stronger it’s harder for me to walk both. Just wondering if any of you use those leash things that allow you to walk more than one dog with only one leash and what you think of them. I think that it would help a lot because carrying 2 leashes is just confusing and they get tangled together, but I’m concerned in the difference in size with my dog’s. I don’t want the puppy to get hurt because the older dog pulls him over to a tree to pee on it. Your thoughts would help…Yes I know leash training will help so they both just walk instead of pull and pee on every tree, but in the meantime they still have to go on walks to use up their energy.
I would suggest taking them on separate walks until the pup is older
I would start over with the leash training … You need to get your labs to stay at your side and not pull.
Try carrying treats with you…while walking give a treat when the dog/pup is at your side (you choose which side you want them to walk on) When the pup/dog starts to pull or is not at your side, stop walking. When they are where you want them to be start walking again and give a treat. Only treat for behavior you want and ignore what you do not. After a short time they will want to walk at your side as that is where the tasty treats are. This of course is not a life long endeavor just until they learn where you want them to walk.
As for the the leashes with the 2 dog splitter (coupler) no need to go to the expense. Simple take your leads and tie them together about 1 1/2′ – 2′ from the end. works just as well, no need to spend extra money if you don’t have to. this of course should only be when both the pup and dog are both leash trained to avoid any injuries to the pup and that they both have good leash manners.
I walk 2 or 4 dogs at a time without any problems all of which are boxers, very strong yet well mannered and properly trained, I would have them no other way
