Confirm or deny: did idea for imperial walkers in stars wars movies come from the Oakland Port Cranes?
As I travel back and forth accross the Port on BART trains, I have heard passengers say that the imperial walkers in the star wars movies were taken from the cranes in use at the port of Oakland, and the Empire’s fortress is modeled on the Oakland Main Post Office. Is any of this true? Please don’t just confirm that you have heard this as well. I would like to really find out, so if you can point to sources for interviews where this has been addressed, please help.
I heard the same thing on a tour of Seattle Harbor.
I’m pretty sure the answer is that the Imperial Walkers were inspired by that particular type of crane, but not the ones at Oakland (or Seattle) specifically.
